Airline Food Mission

Have you seen this hilarious site, http://airlinemeals.net/ ?
It strikes a cord with me because of my imminent trip but also because of the 3 internal flights I took through Vietnam the year before last. Each 'dining experience' was a spam roll of a different variety. Perhaps I'm being mean, but on Vietnam Airlines, I had the pleasure of looking at three mystery meat rolls wrapped in plastic. A differnet looking processed meat in a white bread roll, wrapped tightly in cling wrap.

I've set myself a personal mission to photograph how well Qantas does on my trip, will keep you in the loop.

  1. We had fairly decent pate rolls on Vietnam airlines, certainly better than the stuff we get here. Glad i missed the spam.

  2. I use the term 'spam' in a general, processed meat sense.
The first time the pate and salad roll was interesting and indicative of what you would see being made at carts on the street. The other two flights after that we just jokingly called them the spam rolls. The food was so good in Vietnam that there was definately no time to be eating funny airline food, we had to leave room for all the meals and snacks we were trying to fit into the day!

  3. Jack, I wish you & PDC luck on your travels. On our recent trip to Paris (on Emirates) the food way 3 kinds of *^%$ & you should see what they turned on as a 'kids meal'! I don't think the airlines are even trying anymore...

  5. Hi Jack (no airplane pun intended),

I flew in and out of Vietnam with VA a number of times last year and experienced exactly the same thing as you....we too were disappointed with those awful rolls but were usually so full from all the other brillant food it didn't matter so much!

    Cheers,
    Jo

P.S. About a week after w returned we heard a report that a VA flight from Da Nang to HCMC had to evacuated as scorpions were discovered onboard!!!
